Tesla Wall Connector installation costs $1,400 to $3,200 in published price guides, charger included. Tesla sells the Wall Connector for $585. Labor, wire, the breaker and the permit make up the rest. A charger mounted a few feet from a 200-amp panel lands at the low end. A long wire run or a panel upgrade pushes the total higher.
This guide covers the published numbers, the four things behind a higher quote, the rebates still open in 2026, and how the Wall Connector compares with a regular 240-volt outlet. For the install itself, see our Tesla Wall Connector installation page.
How Much Does Tesla Wall Connector Installation Cost?
Three sources publish current figures:
- Tesla lists the Wall Connector at $585 and the Universal Wall Connector at $660.
- HomeGuide prices Tesla home charger installation labor at $1,000 to $2,500 and the installed total at $1,400 to $3,200.
- Angi puts a Level 2 charger installation at $700 to $2,000, with labor at $400 to $1,200 and permits at $100 to $200.
| Cost item | Published range |
|---|---|
| Tesla Wall Connector (hardware) | $585 |
| Universal Wall Connector (hardware) | $660 |
| Installation labor | $1,000 to $2,500 |
| Electrical permit | $50 to $200 |
| Total installed, charger included | $1,400 to $3,200 |
| Panel upgrade, if the home needs one | $2,500 to $6,500 |
Hardware prices come from Tesla. Labor, permit and installed totals come from HomeGuide and are national ranges. The panel upgrade range is our published figure for Orange County homes.
No guide publishes an Orange County figure. Our published range for a standard Level 2 installation is about $1,200 to $1,800. Jobs with a long wire run or added panel work run about $2,000 to $3,500 or more. Ask whether a quote includes the Wall Connector or assumes you supply one. The answer changes the number by $585.
What Pushes the Price Up
The charger costs the same in every home. The wiring behind the charger does not. Four things move the price.
Distance From the Panel
The Wall Connector is hardwired on a dedicated 240-volt circuit back to the main panel. Every extra foot adds copper wire, conduit and labor. A panel on the garage wall next to the parking spot is the cheapest layout. A panel on the far side of the house means a run through the attic, the crawl space or along an exterior wall.
Detached garages and driveway pedestals cost the most because the circuit goes underground. HomeGuide prices running power to a garage or shed at $10 to $25 per linear foot. Tesla ships the Wall Connector with a 24-foot cable, which gives you room to mount the charger closer to the panel and still reach the charge port.
Panel Capacity and Upgrades
A Wall Connector at full output draws 48 amps and needs a 60-amp breaker. Your electrician runs a load calculation to see whether the panel has room. A 200-amp service handles a 48-amp charger in most homes. A 100-amp service rarely does.
A full panel upgrade is the expensive answer. Most Orange County upgrades cost $2,500 to $6,500, per our panel upgrade cost guide. Two cheaper options exist:
- A smaller breaker. The Wall Connector works on circuits from 15 to 60 amps. Charging slows on a smaller circuit, as the table below shows.
- Load management. Tesla sells a Remote Meter for $210. Tesla says the meter adjusts the charge rate in real time based on the power available in your panel.
| Breaker size | Charger output | Range added per hour |
|---|---|---|
| 60 amps | 48 amps, 11.5 kW | Up to 44 miles |
| 50 amps | 40 amps, 9.6 kW | Up to 37 miles |
| 40 amps | 32 amps, 7.7 kW | Up to 30 miles |
| 30 amps | 24 amps, 5.7 kW | Up to 22 miles |
Figures are Tesla‘s approximate numbers for Model 3 and Model Y. Check your trim before paying for a 60-amp circuit. Tesla notes some Model 3 and Model Y trims accept a maximum of 32 amps, and a 40-amp circuit already gives those cars full speed.

Permits and Inspection
Cities require an electrical permit for a new 240-volt charger circuit, followed by a final inspection. HomeGuide prices the permit at $50 to $200. Angi puts the figure at $100 to $200. Each city sets its own fee.
Paperwork varies by city too. Huntington Beach, for example, asks for a site plan, the manufacturer’s specifications and an electrical service load calculation with the application. Our post on EV charger permits walks through the application and the inspection.
Mounting Location and Extras
Smaller items add to the total:
- Outdoor mounting. Tesla rates the Wall Connector for indoor and outdoor use. An exterior run still needs weatherproof conduit and fittings.
- A pedestal. Tesla lists Wall Connector pedestals at $425 and $900 for driveways with no wall nearby.
- Finished walls. Fishing wire behind drywall or stucco takes longer than surface conduit in an open garage.
- A second charger. Two-EV households add a second unit and the labor to wire it.
Tesla Wall Connector Rebates and Tax Credits in 2026
Incentives changed in 2026. Check each one before you budget around a rebate.
Federal Tax Credit
The federal 30C charger credit covered 30% of the cost, up to $1,000, for chargers in eligible census tracts. Per the IRS, the credit applies to equipment placed in service through June 30, 2026. A Wall Connector installed after June 30 does not qualify. If yours went in before the cutoff, ask your tax preparer about claiming the credit on your 2026 return.
SCE Charge Ready Home
Southern California Edison’s Charge Ready Home program lists rebates of up to $4,200 for an electrical panel upgrade with EV outlet installation, and up to $1,000 for EV outlet installation alone. The program is limited to income-qualified households and homes in designated disadvantaged communities in SCE territory. SCE requires a licensed contractor and a permit.
Confirm two things with SCE before work starts: funding is still open, and a hardwired Wall Connector circuit qualifies.
SCE EV Rate Plans
A rate plan is not a rebate. A rate plan lowers what you pay to charge. SCE built TOU-D-PRIME for EV owners. As of October 2026, SCE lists winter rates of 24 cents per kWh from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 30 cents overnight and 45 cents from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Wall Connector connects to Wi-Fi, so you schedule charging for the cheaper hours.
Anaheim runs its own electric utility, and parts of south Orange County sit in SDG&E territory. Check your own utility’s current EV programs.
Tesla Wall Connector vs a Regular Charger Cost
The Wall Connector is one of three common ways to charge a Tesla at home on 240 volts.
| Option | Hardware price | Top charging speed |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla Wall Connector | $585 | 48 amps, up to 44 miles of range per hour |
| Universal Wall Connector | $660 | 48 amps, up to 44 miles of range per hour |
| Mobile Connector on a NEMA 14-50 outlet | $300 | 32 amps, 30 miles per hour for Model 3 and 27 for Model Y |
Prices and speeds come from Tesla’s shop and Mobile Connector pages.
- Wall Connector vs Universal Wall Connector. The Universal model costs $75 more and has an integrated J1772 adapter for non-Tesla EVs. The circuit and the labor are the same.
- Wall Connector vs a NEMA 14-50 outlet. The Mobile Connector saves $285 on hardware and plugs into a 50-amp outlet. The outlet still needs a breaker, wire, a permit and an inspection, so most of the installation cost stays. See our 240V outlet installation page for the outlet route.
- Wall Connector vs other Level 2 chargers. HomeGuide prices Level 2 charger equipment and materials at $450 to $1,000, which puts the $585 Wall Connector near the low end. Installation cost follows the circuit size and the wire run, not the brand.
Our EV charger installation page covers the other charger brands we install.
